.jpg) Movies and TV have depicted war in many different ways over the years. It seems that the older movies tended to glamorize a lot about the war. Yes, there was some blood, but the plots of good versus evil tended to make war seem more about glory and honor. Years later, TV shows like Hogan’s Heroes actually made light of a horrific period of human history.
It seems in recent years, war on TV and the big screen has been portrayed a bit more realistically. MASH broke that ground in the 70’s mixing the craziness of a bunch of draftees with the human tragedy also synonymous with war. Movies like “Saving Private Ryan” and the HBO series, “Band of Brothers” seemed to capture the essence of the sheer violence and the difficulty in making sense of all the unspeakable suffering and finding the purpose in it all.
In the US, we have a holiday to honor those who have served in the armed forces. Maybe the church should have some sort of day to recognize those involved in spiritual battle. If they did, we would all be recognized, because according to God’s Word, we are all soldiers. The battle is raging around us and we are participating whether we realize it or not. The only question will be how we prepare for this battle? Ephesians 6: 10-18 tells us to “put on the armor of God”.
Are you prepared today?
