chili_thumbWith a line up of slow cookers packed to the brim with beef, beans and a cornucopia of spices, 8 contestants faced off recipes at the 4th Annual Chili Cook off, hosted by the Coronado Social Association. The event took place on the evening of the 16th in the stylish common area of Alcaza condos in Coronado.

Guests brought pot luck dishes to share and their favorite beverages to sit down to a community feast. The chilli itself was served in numbered tasting cups, with guests needing to vote for the best chili on  corresponding ballots.

67 votes were cast. The winning chili recipe was cooked by Rene Schafer, who received  16 votes. The 2nd place chilli was cooked by the team of Ed Moynan and Paul Magnus. Calling themselves Salt & Pepper, the men won 14 votes. 3rd place was taken by Susan Anderson with 12 votes.

Rene's winning recipe won her the CSA's Pepto Bismo cup and $100 from Playacommunity.Com.

"It's a very simple recipe", says Rene. The dish, created for the event was a joint effort by Rene and her husband, John. The Schafers make chili for their annual Super Bowl party and for casual evenings with friends and family.

Rene was kind enough to share her winning recipe with Playacommunity readers.

I had so much fun. I have to thank my sous chef Molly for her help. Thanks for the great prize too. The party was so well-organized, all the food was great and Alcazar was a beautiful location.
